A Redditor is going viral after revealing that their Nintendo Switch 1 emerged relatively unscathed from a fire that consumed their entire home — without a protective case, no less.
It’s no secret that Nintendo products are built to last. Hell, there’s even an original Game Boy handheld console that allegedly managed to survive the Gulf War, which was on display at Nintendo New York until 2023.
The latest evidence of Nintendo’s durability comes two years later, when Reddit user ‘Whitewolf255’ showed off a photo of their Nintendo Switch 1 covered in ashes from a house fire, but still working.
“Lost my house last week, but not my Switch,” they wrote. Viewers can easily see the aftermath of the fire in the photo’s background, which shows crispy walls and ashes scattered all over the floor.

That isn’t the most impressive part about their Switch’s miraculous survival, though. In the comments, the Redditor revealed that the console wasn’t even inside a protective case and was merely sitting in the dock at the time of the blaze. (Unfortunately, the dock didn’t make it.)
They expounded upon the house fire in another comment, revealing that the blaze started in their backyard before consuming the house.
“Thank you so much for all your kind words and encouragement,” they wrote. “It means a lot. Everyone made it out, the cause of the fire is still under investigation. It started in the grass in the back yard, so I didn’t know there was a fire until I was going to the restroom and saw my deck on fire.”
Their post has racked up over 260K upvotes since being posted on June 25, leaving viewers hopeful that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be equally as fireproof.
In fact, one commenter urged Nintendo to buy the Redditor a new console, referencing Stanley purchasing a woman a new vehicle after her Stanley-branded tumbler survived a car fire in 2023.
